CFT Raoul Teilhet Scholarship for High School Seniors 2019

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who are children or dependents of CFT members in good standing, or children of deceased CFT members.

Description:

  • Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who are children or dependents of CFT members in good standing, or children of deceased CFT members. Awards are available to students attending community colleges, four-year colleges or universities, technical, trade or art schools.
  • The award grants for an academic year will be a maximum of $3000 for those attending four-year colleges, and $1000 for students attending two-year schools. The award is for one year only.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on factors that include academic achievement, special talents and skills, a required essay, and financial need. You must be listed as a dependent on your parent’s or guardian’s tax return to be eligible for this scholarship.
  • Your application must be 100% complete to be considered. Applications that are not complete will not be considered.
The application requirements listed below require advance planning.
                 
  • Official transcript: Upload your most recent official transcript for at least the last three semesters.
  • Parent/Guardian Federal Tax Return: Upload the first two pages of your parent's or guardian's signed federal tax return for 2018, or request that your parent or guardian upload the tax return. Financial information and tax returns will be kept confidential by the CFT. Please strike out Social Security numbers.
  • Member Verification by Parent/Guardian: You will send your parent or guardian the AFT/CFT member verification form to complete.
  • Member Verification by AFT Local Union President: You will send your parent's submission to the president of your parent's AFT local union for additional verification. You will need the name and email address of the AFT local union president. 
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three recommendations are required – one from a teacher, one from a counselor or administrator, and one from a community member who is familiar with your achievements and abilities. You will need the email addresses of your recommenders.
  • Essay: In the spirit of inspirational leader Raoul Teilhet, you will write and submit an essay that addresses a social problem and your role in solving it. Your titled essay cannot exceed 500 words.
